Why and How to Update Your Front Door Numbers

Updated: Dec 22, 2020

You can add some character to your front door with just some impressive front door numbers. You can find many styles to choose from when you go online. Vinyl front door numbers are an inexpensive and relatively easy option for a front door. Vinyl front door numbers are easily applied to both wood and brick. Here's how to install vinyl home numbers on a British standard door.

Installation of Front door Numbers

There are several steps to installing the front door numbers on a British standard door. First, vinyl letters can be directly applied to wooden doors using a sash panel. Second, rather than painting the letters onto the front door, you can paint them into the wood before mounting the lettering to the door. This makes a design element out of the lettering, which will make it stand out even more.

Next, vinyl letters can also be applied to metal doors using a bracket and sash system. However, this method does take a bit of time. One of the best things about vinyl lettering is that there are no gaps in the lettering. You can use either standard black or white house numbers. It is recommended that you use one colour for all your house numbers, or at least one.

After you've applied your vinyl letters, you can then install hardware to the top and bottom of your front door. The hardware will match the colour of your vinyl letters. The hardware is optional and not required if you're going with vinyl letters. However, installing the hardware is relatively easy and quick, and it will add a bit of character to your front door.

The last step is to install your glazed panel on the other side of your door. If you're using standard letters, this should be reasonably easy. However, if you're using coloured letters, you will want to go ahead and pre-drill a hole in the panel. Once you've pre-drilled the cave, you can then line the hole up with the centre of your number. Please make sure the letter is centred above the gap when you drill it.

Once the glazed panel is installed, you can then screw in your doorbell and turn on the light. Your door should now be able to light up with the help of your doorbell's sensors. To get a better idea of how your front door looks right now, search online for some front door decorating pictures. You'll find many great ideas that will give your home a significant upgrade. The last thing you want is to go and spend thousands of dollars on replacing your doorbell because it doesn't fit your new vinyl letters.

If you are tired of looking at your front door with the old style light and want something a little more modern, consider updating your front door with new lighted numbers.
